Colours and Silhouettes.

on March 3, 2012

So TEDxNTU is just around the corner and the past whole month has been spent in designing the publicity material for the event. The theme is “The Pursuit of Happiness” and after much head cracking, I finally came up with this-

I aimed to cover the whole spectrum of human emotions while showing that each thing we do in our lives is eventually to reach that elusive happiness. Now, I usally pick designs by standing back and seeing if the design makes me feel good – if it convinces me that it can stand up to the challenge of wordless explanation of the topic. For me,this one really did meet the challenge!

The colours stand for that range of human emotions and goals –  purple for wealth, mystery and royalty; blue for calmness, intelligence and piety; red for passion, courage and wrath; orange for creativity, success and enthusiasm and finally yellow for happiness, intellect and energy. The silhouettes stand for us – the individual falling down but never giving up his quest for happiness.

I am rather happy with the way the whole thing turned out. The background has been created using Smoke Brushes of Photoshop. It was rather simple – download the smoke brushes, ‘Load’ the brushes from the Brushes panel in Photoshop and voila! you are good to go. The effect is rather charming. I limited the use of brushes to fill the background but with a bit of skill, Smudge, Blur and Transform Tool, the smoke can be sculpted to form a definite shape. The final look is rather amazing and it’s not very difficult to do!

Oh and then there’s this amazing video that’s up on all TVs on campus (not made by me). Definitely worth a watch! Here’s the link.

What a co-incidence! I just blogged about colors too… well in a completely different context though! 🙂
